Decivus listens, and offers a small shrug.
"There's no helping it, then, if the General has tired of taking a more direct command." Decivus replies. His disappointment is not that great; he'd expected the chances of his return to be slim as it were. "If, however, you are indeed confident in your leadership capabilities, then by all means, we can make use of your skills."
Decivus regards the Chiss carefully.
"I cannot promote you to a higher rank until I have seen your capabilities in action." Decivus tells the Lieutenant. Before Decivus can continue, however, a muffled klaxon suddenly blares outside of the conference room. The young Sith's eyes snap upwards, and then to the door. Rising fast from his seat, Decivus heads for the door. "Lieutenant, with me."
Decivus leaves the conference room and returns quickly to the bridge. Captain Versai busily talks with her subordinates, turning on her heel as Decivus approaches.
"Sir! We are under attack!" the Captain reports hurriedly. "We've identified one warship, a Razor-class Frigate, and seven starfighters deployed in a screening formation. They appear to be a mix of I-7 Howlrunners and A-9 Vigilance interceptors."
Decivus looks through the forward viewports - the aforementioned vessels appeared to be actively and rapidly approaching them. The young Sith turns to Captain Versai.
"Have you received communications from them?" Decivus asks.
"Only a demand to surrender our ship, sir. They claim to be Imperials, and that we are trespassing in their affairs." Captain Versai replies. "We've also made contact with Ciutric's ground control, and they claim that they have no warships in their possession, saying that the ship arrived a day ago, demanding resources and protection payment. I surmise that these are either pirates or some other sub-faction."
Decivus narrows his eyes, looking back at the approaching frigate. "Isn't that an Imperial design?" Decivus asks, to which Captain Versai nods.
"It is, sir, but the design has not seen production since the old Galactic Civil War." Versai explains. "Three hundred twenty meters in length, and armed with three forward facing dual turbolasers. But those markings across the bow... Ensign Korr! Have we found a match yet in our records?"
"Yes, Captain." the Nikto ensign replies quickly. "It matches against the Invids in our database."
"These traitors are still operating?" Captain Versai exclaims. When she sees Decivus' quizzical look, she turns to him. "The Invids are named after the Imperial Star Destroyer Invidious. After the old Empire felll to the Rebellion, the Invidious served as the former Moff turned warlord, Leona Tavira's flagship. The Invids became a pirate organization, preying on worlds not protected by the New Republic. I thought that they had been destroyed by now..."
"It appears not." Decivus replies. "If they are parading around in an old Imperial warship, we should make an example of them. A shame, I wouldn't mind taking that vessel from them, but that is not why we are here."
Decivus turns to Lieutenant Mitth.
"Lieutenant, I wish to test your leadership skills. You will take temporary command, with my and Captain Versai's supervision." Decivus tells the Chiss. "As you heard, there is a Razor-class Frigate on an interception route towards us, with seven deployed starfighters. As they are showing open hostility, and masquerading as Imperials, they must be destroyed."
"We currently have two TIE Fighter Squadrons and one squadron of TIE Interceptors." Captain Versai says, glancing quizzically at the Chiss. "The Evictor outguns that frigate in every aspect. Tactically, we are the ones with the advantage."
"Which means that their frigate is modified in such a way that they think they can charge a warship more than twice their size." Decivus replies. "You may begin, Lieutenant."
