--Posting for SL NPC's-- A number of engineers stand around a holotable, situated in a well lit, white marble room. Stormtroopers guard the entrance as the engineers work.
"So then, what are the parameters we are working with?" one of the three Mon Cala engineers asks.
"Evidently, we are basing the designs on the fact that the Empire needs to field warships, starfighters, and ground forces while keeping in mind that they have lost a great deal of people able to crew them." an engineer from Fondor replies.
"In which case, we're not working with 'bigger is better', like the Empire used to do." an engineer from Axxila chimes in. "In order to fulfil the Empire's needs, we'll have to design smaller warships without sacrificing firepower, shield power, or hull integrity. Not an easy task."
After a few moments, the Mon Cala speaks up.
"I know of a solution to the firepower issue." the Mon Cala offers. "When I worked for the New Republic's Defender Program, which never was able to take off, we were able to design a model of warship called the Nebula-class Star Defender; and Kuat helped us engineer the Galaxy-class Battle Carrier, which they then bought the rights to manufacture."
The Mon Cala puts her hands behind her back.
"The ship wasn't much larger than the Old Republic Venator, but its shields and firepower were comparable to the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer when we tested it." she tells them. "It's hull was the issue, as we were unable to make it more durable."
"I may have a resolution for that." the Axxila engineer offers. "Currently, Durasteel is the most commonly used material; I suggest moving away from it - at least for capital ships. For the new capital ships, I recommend Duramentium."
"I know of the material. More common than cortosis, but just as difficult to process." the Fondor engineer replies. "When the Mandalorians held authority over Fondor, they imported Beskar steel for their construction efforts. But the Corellian Union confiscated our stock of it when they took control. Duramentium is roughly as sturdy as Beskar; it would be a viable option for capital ships."
"I would also suggest Turadium, for use in constructing blast doors." the Mon Cala adds. "It's a very tough metal - capable of enduring massive punishement. There's no blasting those doors down with bombs. It is even durable enough to resist Jedi lightsabers for a long time."
"We can import most of these materials needed to process them - others will need to be mined." the Axxila engineer says, crossing his arms. "The Empire has been taking back control of foundries across a number of worlds, so there shouldn't be too much issue gathering what is needed."
"Right, so we have our hull and blast door material, as well as the New Republic's advanced shield generator designs. What were those designated?" the Fondor engineer asks, looking at the Mon Cala.
"In truth, what we designed was essentially a more powerful iteration of the ISD-72x Deflector Shield Generator. We were calling it the ISD-73a." the Mon Cala replies with a shrug. "It was experimental, but we were close to perfecting the design. We figured out a way to power up the shields, while simultaneously reducing the power drain they had on the rest of the ship. We still have the designs at Mon Cala - we took all of our information and hid it away during the Corellian invasion."
"Alright, so we have the Defender Program to reference, and the materials needed to make the new warships sturdier despite making them smaller to reduce the size of required crew." the Axxila engineer nods. "I have a recommendation regarding their TIE Fighters."
The other engineers look at the human, showing their attention.
"During the Clone Wars, and later during Emperor Palpatine's return, droid brains were placed into starfighters to make rapid deployment of fighters viable, and pilots unnecessary. I would suggest reviving the old TIE Droid Starfighter program." the Axxila engineer offers. "That would make up for the lack of ready starfighter pilots, and pilots could be trained to fly more advanced craft, such as the Interceptors and Defenders. We also mitigate the loss of life TIE Pilots often suffer during engagements."
"If we are thinking along those lines, then we should also consider those droid tanks the Empire fielded during that time as well." the Fondor engineer adds. "I forget the class type, they looked like mobile turbolaser towers."
"Ah, yes I know what you're referring to." the Axxila officer replies with a nod. "Arakyd Industries produced them, the XR-85 Tank Droid. We have the blueprints, so we can produce those as well."
The engineers all nod and look over the holoprojector. The Mon Cala speaks up first.
"Now, as for the power source for weapons systems, I recommend the III-a1a primary hypermatter-annihilation reactor that we designed for the New Republic Defender Program." she offers. "I also recommend the use of Kyber crystals to further strengthen the turbolaser firepower."
The other engineers nod in agreement, and finally go about the process of designing the new starships.
After three weeks of combined effort, the triad of industry engineers finally produce several designs for the New Empire to begin constructing. TIE Droid SquadronDetails: The TIE/D Automated Starfighter, or TIE Droid for short, is a design that follows along similar lines as the Separatists' Vulture Droid Fighter. With a combat matrix computer piloting the fighter, rather than a living pilot, the new design is able to take higher stress turning and is able to be sent in swarm formations without sacrificing pilots like fodder to the enemy's line of fire. The TIE Droids are not capable of intersystem travel, and must be deployed from docking clamps aboard carriers. TIE Droids are built from the same materials as standard TIE Fighters, with the exception of a new combat droid fighter brain matrix. Unit Cost: 5,000cr Build Time: 6 hours D/O: 50/175 Level: 1 Replaces the TIE Fighter Squadron. Proclamator-class Star FrigateProclamator Images - Artwork by FractalspongeDetails: As a means to utilize less resources, the Proclamator-class Star Frigate is designed with the original Acclamator-class Cruiser design in mind. At 900 meters long, the vessel has a thinner profile than the Victory-class Star Destroyer, but is by no means less lethal. Adjustments to the design now make it possible to field a ship of the same class as a Victory Star Destroyer, but with a comparatively much smaller crew required to operate it. However, this vessel is not being introduced to replace the Victory; but rather to replace the much older Dreanought-class Heavy Cruiser. Unit Cost: 75,000cr Build Time: 24 hours D/O: 450/500 Level: 3 Replaces the Dreadnought-class Heavy Cruiser Turbulent-class Star DestroyerStar Destroyer - art by FractalspongeDetails: A newer design of the same line as the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Visually identical to the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer, the Turbulent-class is actually smaller by several hundred meters. The details are not specific, only saying that the vessel is smaller - so we will be operating under the assumption that the Turbulent is roughly as long as the Nebula-class Star Defender (roughly 1,200 meters long). The smaller size, however, does not mean less firepower - as the ship was designed with the concept of requiring a much smaller crew, but still able to trade blows with the much larger capital ships very efficiently. Unit Cost: 150,000cr Build Time: 30 Hours D/O: 700/800 Level: 4 Replaces the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Praetorian-class BattlecruiserDetails: Due to the New Empire's interest in trading size for capacity and firepower, the Praetorian-class Battlecruiser is designed with the same principals in mind that lead us towards replacing the standard ISD with the Turbulent-class Star Destroyer. At just over 3,000m in length, it is nearly twice the size of the ISD, but with most of its onboard services turning to automation and droid controlled tasks, the crew requirement is cut in half of that required by the ISD. Taking ques from the Bellator-class SSD, and technological advancements made with the Executor-class Star Dreadnought, the Praetorian-class Battlecruiser boasts superior shielding and firepower - and though significantly smaller, the Praetorian is projected to be capable of holding its own against even SSD's. Though the cost is the same as the SSD, the significant drop in crew requirement, compact form, and superior firepower and shielding make it well worth the effort. Unit Level: 5 Unit Cost: 250,000cr Build time: 96 hours Fleet Cap size: 250 Special Requirement for Construction: Must Control Bastion*
